[isaacsim.ucx.core] UCX Core#

Version: 1.4.3

Overview#

This extension provides high-performance communication capabilities using UCX (Unified Communication X) for distributed simulation scenarios with low-latency data transfer. UCX is a communication middleware that delivers optimized networking performance for high-performance computing environments, enabling efficient data exchange between distributed Isaac Sim instances.

Key Components#

UCX Communication Layer#

The extension integrates UCX networking capabilities directly into Isaac Sim’s runtime environment through native plugins. This provides access to UCX’s high-performance communication protocols, including support for various network fabrics and transport mechanisms optimized for low-latency operations.

Native Plugin Integration#

The extension includes compiled native plugins that interface with UCX libraries at the system level. These plugins handle the low-level communication protocols and memory management required for efficient data transfer between distributed simulation nodes.

Functionality#

Distributed Simulation Support#

The extension enables Isaac Sim to participate in distributed simulation scenarios where multiple instances need to exchange data with minimal latency. This is particularly useful for large-scale robotics simulations that require coordination across multiple compute nodes or when simulation workloads are distributed across different machines.

High-Performance Data Transfer#

UCX provides optimized communication paths that can leverage various network technologies including InfiniBand, Ethernet, and shared memory when available. The extension makes these capabilities accessible to Isaac Sim’s simulation pipeline, enabling efficient synchronization and data sharing between distributed components.

Integration#

The extension operates as a foundational communication layer that other Isaac Sim extensions can utilize for distributed computing scenarios. It provides the underlying infrastructure for multi-node simulation setups where traditional networking approaches might introduce unacceptable latency or throughput limitations.

Enable Extension#

The extension can be enabled (if not already) in one of the following ways:

Define the next entry as an application argument from a terminal.

APP_SCRIPT.(sh|bat) --enable isaacsim.ucx.core

Define the next entry under [dependencies] in an experience (.kit) file or an extension configuration (extension.toml) file.

[dependencies]
"isaacsim.ucx.core" = {}

Open the Window > Extensions menu in a running application instance and search for isaacsim.ucx.core. Then, toggle the enable control button if it is not already active.
